Pavel Sanda is currently research fellow at the Institute of Computer Science of the Czech Academy of Sciences.
His research focuses on modeling dynamics of biologically inspired neural networks and analysing experimental recordings/neuroimaging data.

NEW - Opened postdoc position for BRADY project

Feel free to contact me informally regarding the position for the Topic 1. Focus of the work will be on the modelling dynamics of sleep, transitions to awake states and influence of neuromodulators (ACh, NE, etc) in spiking networks. The work will involve interaction with experimental labs. Knowledge of C++ is a strong plus, matlab/python would be useful. Experience with signal processing of experimental data (mainly LFP recordings) would be useful too. These two papers on sleep and resting state might give you a taste of what you are heading into.

The main research topics:

Preprints and publications can be found here.

Theses/projects supervision

Feel free to contact me in case you are seeking supervision for your thesis on the topics similar enough to the list above (modeling spiking networks esp. in the context of sleep, plasticity, decision making and neuromodulation).

Software projects for students

If you are bored with writing school software projects which were written thousand times already and can be thrown away just after you get your school credits, I can offer some pet problems and lead software projects which could be actually used by other people and ideally would become inherent part of LyX typesetting system, which I co-develop.
To list just few hints (either as standalone addon or integrated part):

  • protocol and implementation of concurrent editing between users
  • improved document comparison (standard diff algorithms are correct but not 'nice' enough)
  • advanced system for bilingual editions (based on ledpar LaTeX class)
  • LyX-LaTeX layout editor

and many more...

Couple of our projects got support in Google Summer of Code already - so well written proposal has a decent chance to get funded if you don't know what to do in the summer time.
Don't hesitate to send me an email if you want more details.
